GIFT Nifty hits record $102 billion turnover
Mumbai
GIFT Nifty reached a new record in May by clocking its highest-ever monthly turnover of $102.35 billion (Rs 8.75 lakh crore). A total of 2.10 million contracts were traded, breaking the previous record of $100.93 billion set in April this year.
This new high reflects the rising global confidence in GIFT Nifty as a key part of India’s growing stock market. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) said this achievement shows strong support from global investors and market participants.
GIFT Nifty began full-scale trading operations on July 3, 2023. Since then, it has recorded a total volume of over 43.28 million contracts and a cumulative turnover of $1.93 trillion up to May 2025.
Operated by NSE International Exchange (NSE IX), GIFT Nifty trades at the GIFT City International Financial Services Centre (IFSC). NSE IX is recognized by the International Financial Services Centre Authority (IFSCA) and holds over 99% market share in GIFT IFSC.
NSE IX offers a wide range of products including Indian Single Stock Derivatives, Index Derivatives, Currency Derivatives, Global Stocks, and Depository Receipts. These products attract both domestic and international investors.
Alongside GIFT Nifty’s success, NSE has become India’s largest unlisted company with over 100,000 shareholders. For the financial year ending March 2025, NSE reported a 17% year-on-year rise in total income, reaching Rs 19,177 crore.
This sharp growth in trading and investor trust marks a major milestone for India’s financial sector and strengthens GIFT Nifty’s role in connecting Indian markets with global investors.
