Gautam Adani tops India’s wealth gain list
New Delhi
Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, has emerged as India’s biggest wealth gainer in the past year. According to the ‘Hurun Global Rich List 2025’ released on Thursday, Adani's net worth grew by an impressive Rs 1 lakh crore, marking a 13% increase, bringing his total wealth to Rs 8.4 lakh crore. This boost made him the second-richest person in India.
However, Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman of Reliance Industries, saw his wealth decrease by Rs 1 lakh crore, falling to Rs 8.6 lakh crore. Despite this dip, Ambani remains Asia's wealthiest individual. The list showed that Ambani’s declining fortune was due to increased debt levels.
Adani, at 62 years old, has led the growth of a massive conglomerate spanning sectors such as renewables, ports, airports, mining, and power generation. His rise to prominence has been steady, even briefly claiming the title of Asia’s richest in 2024. Globally, he ranks 18th.
Among other top Indian billionaires, Roshni Nadar of HCL is now the world’s fifth-richest woman with a net worth of Rs 3.5 lakh crore, while Dilip Shanghvi of Sun Pharma holds the fourth spot in India with Rs 2.5 lakh crore. The Hurun list also highlighted the wealth of other business magnates, including Kumar Mangalam Birla, Cyrus Poonawalla, and Radhakishan Damani.
The Hurun Global Rich List 2025 features 3,442 billionaires, reflecting a 5% increase from last year.
