Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL) has successfully launched India’s first off-grid green hydrogen pilot plant with a 5 MW capacity in Kutch, Gujarat. The plant runs fully on solar energy and includes a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), making it completely independent of the power grid.

This marks a major step in India's clean energy efforts. The plant features a modern, fully automated electrolyser that adjusts to real-time solar energy inputs. This setup helps handle the changing nature of solar power while maintaining safety and high performance.

ANIL’s project supports India’s push to become a global leader in green hydrogen. It also provides a working example of how renewable energy can be used in hard-to-decarbonize industries like fertilisers, oil refining, and heavy transport.

This pilot project will also help prepare for a much larger Green Hydrogen Hub planned in Mundra, Gujarat. The initiative is part of India's National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), which was launched in 2023 with a $2.4 billion investment.

Green hydrogen is considered a key solution to reduce dependence on imported fuel, boost energy security, and cut emissions. This aligns with India’s goal to become energy independent by 2047 and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070.

Adani’s pilot plant shows that local, off-grid green hydrogen production is possible and practical. The company believes this model can guide future renewable energy projects in India and abroad. With such innovations, India aims to meet domestic needs and become a major global exporter of green hydrogen by 2030.
