Centre seeks public feedback for Clinical Electrical Thermometers
New Delhi
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution has called for public comments on the proposed rules for Clinical Electrical Thermometers. Stakeholders and the public can submit their feedback until December 30, 2024. The draft rules, published on November 29, 2024, aim to amend the existing Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011, in line with the OIML (International Organization of Legal Metrology) recommendations. Once finalized, these rules will standardize the accuracy and reliability of clinical thermometers, which are commonly used in households, healthcare facilities, and industries. The proposed rules include provisions for verifying and stamping these devices to ensure compliance with set standards, helping safeguard the health of both humans and animals. The Ministry emphasized that these measures are essential for fostering trust in thermometer measurements, ensuring that health diagnoses and treatment decisions rely on accurate data. The Department of Consumer Affairs, which oversees the Legal Metrology Department, ensures the accuracy of weighing and measuring devices, thus protecting consumer interests. The initiative aims to strengthen consumer safety and standardize temperature measurements across various sectors.
