The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) marked eight years of GST by organizing a nationwide cycling event called “Sundays on Cycle” on Sunday. This event was held in partnership with the Fit India Movement to promote fitness and raise awareness about GST.

The main event took place at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. More than 100 CGST commissionerates from across India also joined the celebration. Bollywood stars like Sunil Shetty, Milind Soman, and John Abraham participated in the Mumbai and Pune zones.

Shashank Priya, CBIC’s Member for GST, explained how GST changed India’s tax system by combining nearly 30 indirect taxes into one single, simple, and clear tax. He said this has made things easier for both businesses and common people.

He also spoke about how schemes like the GST Composition Scheme and QRMP Scheme help small taxpayers by reducing the paperwork and making tax payment easier.

A help desk named “Know About GST” was set up in New Delhi to answer public questions. Informational brochures and digital kiosks with QR codes were also placed for people to learn more about GST directly on their phones.

Colorful posters and banners shared key GST reforms, especially those for small businesses and new taxpayers. This event showed how CBIC wants to bring GST closer to people and make it easy to understand. It also supported health awareness and public engagement, while celebrating India’s journey of tax reform under GST over the past eight years.
