Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced that Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has invested ₹88 crore to support over 30 startups. These startups work in energy, healthcare, agriculture, and artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative is part of BPCL’s ‘Project Ankur’, which aims to build a self-reliant India, or Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Minister Puri shared on social media that BPCL is helping young entrepreneurs become job creators and leaders. He added that BPCL is promoting important innovations such as fuel-flexible turbines and converting carbon dioxide into methanol.

“India’s startup scene is growing fast, bringing innovation and growth to many sectors,” he said. BPCL’s investment under Project Ankur is helping new ideas succeed in important fields.

The Minister also highlighted the efforts of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). Through its ‘Udgam’ initiative, HPCL has invested ₹27 crore to support 28 startups. Udgam has raised a total of ₹35 crore to boost clean energy technologies. These include green hydrogen, ethanol, smart LPG cylinders, emission control, IoT-based solutions, cashless payment systems, and waste-to-energy technologies.

Minister Puri said HPCL is playing a key role in shaping India’s energy future by supporting startups focused on clean and green energy. He credited the progress to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Startup India initiative, which continues to inspire innovation across the country.

Oil India Limited is also contributing by funding 15 startups with ₹50 crore. These startups are working on advanced technologies such as hydrogen fuel cell buses, wireless robots for oil well inspections, and tools for oil and gas operations.

The combined efforts reflect a strong push toward innovation-driven energy development in India.
