BPCL refineries hit record high output level
New Delhi
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) reached a major milestone in 2024–25 by achieving its highest-ever refinery output of 40.5 million metric tonnes (MMT), working at 115% capacity, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Friday. The company also earned a record profit of Rs 13,275 crore for the year.
Puri met with BPCL Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Khanna to review the company’s performance. Khanna currently holds the post as an additional charge. The minister praised BPCL for setting new records in refinery throughput, market sales of 52.4 MMT, and capital spending of Rs 17,000 crore.
BPCL also earned a strong gross refining margin of $6.82 per barrel. As part of its green energy push, the company commissioned a 5 MW Green Hydrogen (GH2) unit at its Bina refinery in just 15 months. This step supports BPCL’s goal to achieve Net Zero emissions for Scope 1 and 2 by 2040.
Public sector oil companies, including BPCL, are helping the government absorb recent excise duty hikes on petrol and diesel. The burden has not been passed on to consumers due to falling global crude prices.
Puri said the government aims to balance company health and consumer relief. He also suggested that, with oil prices near $60 per barrel, fuel price cuts may happen if trends continue.
BPCL’s strong performance highlights its key role in India’s energy sector and its commitment to supporting the country’s transition to cleaner energy while maintaining stable fuel prices for citizens.
