Lucknow
Adani Power has secured a 25-year contract to supply 1,500 megawatts (MW) of electricity to Uttar Pradesh at a tariff of Rs 5.383 per unit, as announced by the state’s Energy Minister AK Sharma. The deal, finalized through competitive bidding, involves power from a 2x800 MW thermal power project to be set up in the state. Sharma stated that seven companies participated in the bidding process, and Adani Power emerged as the winner. The project will help Uttar Pradesh meet its growing energy demands.
The state government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved the deal in a cabinet meeting on Tuesday. This agreement aligns with the state’s long-term energy strategy and aims to enhance future energy security. Sharma highlighted that Uttar Pradesh is projected to need an additional 10,795 MW of thermal power by 2033-34. The procurement of 1,500 MW is a crucial step toward meeting this demand.
The new thermal plant will support the state’s future energy requirements and contribute to its overall development, as Uttar Pradesh continues to expand its infrastructure and industries. This agreement also underscores Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to securing reliable power sources for its growing industrial and residential needs. The addition of 1,500 MW will play a significant role in stabilizing the state’s power supply, reducing potential shortages, and fostering economic growth by attracting more investments in the region.
