U.S. President Donald Trump has denied claims that he left the G7 Summit early to help create a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Trump strongly criticized French President Emmanuel Macron for suggesting this reason, calling him “publicity seeking” and “always wrong.”
On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “President Macron wrongly said I left the G7 to work on an Israel-Iran ceasefire. That’s false. He doesn’t know why I’m heading back to Washington, but it’s for a much bigger reason. Stay tuned!”
Macron had told reporters at the summit in Canada that Trump’s early exit was linked to efforts to stop the Israel-Iran conflict. Macron described the situation as hopeful and said discussions could restart soon to protect civilians. He also said the U.S. might pressure Israel into accepting a ceasefire.
Trump, however, rejected those ideas, saying his reason for returning was unrelated to the conflict. At the summit, he had only said he needed to be back “for obvious reasons” and would leave after dinner with other leaders.
As fighting continues into its fifth day, Iran has launched several missiles at Israel. Air raid sirens have sounded across Haifa and northern parts of Israel. Tensions remain high, and the chance of a ceasefire seems uncertain.
Trump has also advised people to evacuate Tehran. The White House has not shared more details about his early return, and no new peace plan has been officially announced.
The disagreement highlights growing tension among G7 leaders during a global crisis.
