Two Israeli embassy workers were shot and killed Wednesday night outside a museum in Washington, D.C., by a man who reportedly shouted “Free Palestine” during the attack. The victims, Sarah Lynn Milgrim and her partner Yaron Lischinsky, were attending an event hosted by the American Jewish Committee at the Capital Jewish Museum.
The suspect, 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez from Chicago, was quickly taken into custody by the police. D.C. Police Chief Pamela Smith confirmed that Rodriguez chanted “Free, free Palestine!” while being arrested.
Milgrim worked in the Israeli embassy’s Department of Public Diplomacy, while Lischinsky was a research assistant in the political department. He had moved to Israel from Germany at age 16, served in the military, and later relocated to Washington in 2022. According to reports, he had recently bought an engagement ring and planned to propose in Jerusalem next week.
President Donald Trump condemned the killings as antisemitic, urging an end to such violence. “Hatred and radicalism have no place in the USA,” he said.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi promised a full investigation and prosecution, stating, “We will follow the law and prosecute fully.”
Israeli Ambassador Yechiel addressed the press alongside U.S. officials, calling the act one of “moral depravity.” He said the Israeli people would remain strong and united in the face of such tragedy.
The shocking incident has stirred strong reactions both in the U.S. and Israel, highlighting rising tensions and the need for increased diplomatic and community protection.
