Myanmar has formed a new union government and a State Security and Peace Commission, according to state media reports on Thursday. The announcement was made by the National Defence and Security Council (NDSC) through Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV).
U Nyo Saw has been appointed as the new Prime Minister, while Senior General Min Aung Hlaing will head the newly formed peace commission. The NDSC also canceled the earlier order that had transferred sovereign power to the military chief.
This decision follows the NDSC's move to officially end the state of emergency that had been in place since February 2021. The emergency was declared after a military takeover and was extended several times, the latest lasting until July 31, 2025. The government now aims to conduct general elections.
Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson for the State Administration Council, confirmed the shift and said it signals the country’s return toward civilian governance.
In another development, Myanmar is pushing ahead with digital transformation. The Myanmar Digital Economy Roadmap 2030, launched last December, aims to grow the country's digital sector. Officials reviewed progress in a meeting held on July 25 at the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw.
Union Minister Mya Tun Oo emphasized that digital development is essential for national growth. He cited World Economic Forum data showing that digital economies now account for at least 15% of global GDP, a figure expected to rise to 25% by 2030.
The roadmap outlines six key objectives and 77 action plans to be carried out over the next five years to support Myanmar’s digital future.
