The Hague
India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in the Netherlands on Monday for a six-day official visit. His trip aims to improve India’s relations with key European countries, including the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany. The visit will last from May 19 to May 24.
Upon arrival in The Hague, Jaishankar was welcomed by Indian Ambassador Kumar Tuhin and Dutch official Gabriella Sancisi from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The visit focuses on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, digital technology, climate change, and shared security concerns.
According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Jaishankar will meet leaders of all three countries. He will hold discussions with his counterparts on several important issues, including global and regional challenges.
This visit is part of India’s broader diplomatic efforts to build stronger ties with Europe. India is looking to expand partnerships in areas such as economic growth, global peace, and climate action.
In April, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal also visited the Netherlands. During his trip, both nations agreed to strengthen trade and economic cooperation. This showed India’s ongoing interest in building strong relations with the European country.
The visit comes shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi canceled his scheduled trip to Europe due to rising tensions with Pakistan. Despite the cancellation, India continues its diplomatic activities in the region.
Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof recently condemned the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, calling it cowardly. He assured India of the Netherlands' support in the global fight against terrorism.
India and the Netherlands continue working closely to boost ties and support global peace efforts.
