As part of the upcoming United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), the French coastal city of Nice lit up the skies with a breathtaking drone show, drawing hundreds of residents and tourists to the Mediterranean shore of La Baie des Anges on Friday evening.

The event, organised to raise awareness about ocean conservation and the preservation of marine biodiversity, featured 2,025 illuminated drones. The show began at 10:45 p.m. under a starlit sky, accompanied by a custom musical soundtrack designed for the event.

Spectators were treated to dazzling aerial formations of marine creatures, including dolphins, sea turtles, seahorses, sharks, manta rays, whales, and coral reefs. The drones danced in sync, forming intricate shapes that celebrated ocean life and emphasized the urgent need to protect marine ecosystems.

The message conveyed at the end of the show highlighted how oceans help regulate environmental conditions, playing a critical role in maintaining the planet’s ecological balance. The visual storytelling aimed to inspire action among global citizens and leaders attending the UNOC3, scheduled to take place from June 9 to 13 in Nice. In addition to the drone display, the evening also included live concerts and fireworks, with local police ensuring tight security to manage the large crowds and maintain public order.

The drone show marked a symbolic beginning to the conference, which will see global leaders deliberate on pressing oceanic challenges and seek sustainable solutions to protect Earth’s aquatic resources. UNOC3 is expected to bring together policymakers, scientists, and environmentalists from around the world.
