The Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) has announced a long march from Wadh to Quetta on March 28 to protest the illegal detention of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leaders, including Mahrang Baloch and Sammi Deen Baloch. BNP-M President Akhtar Mengal will lead the march, condemning what he calls state oppression and injustice.

The decision was made during BNP-M’s central executive committee meeting, following a crackdown on Baloch women. A shutter-down strike and protests at press clubs across Balochistan were also announced. Mengal urged all Baloch people to unite, calling the movement a fight for national dignity and existence.

The Sindh government has detained Sammi Deen Baloch under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) for 30 days, despite a court ordering her release. The whereabouts of four other activists remain unknown. BYC had been protesting enforced disappearances when several members were arrested under Section 144.

Authorities in Quetta have filed seven cases against over 500 BYC activists, including charges of terrorism against Mahrang Baloch for leading sit-ins against enforced disappearances. Police continue to face backlash over their heavy-handed response.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s PTI has condemned the use of force against peaceful protesters. PTI’s central leadership called for accountability and the immediate release of detainees, criticizing the government for suppressing voices demanding justice.
