A group of 41 Australian lawmakers has written to Muhammad Yunus, head of Bangladesh’s interim government, urging him to immediately announce a clear election roadmap. They say this is necessary to ensure free, fair, and trusted elections in Bangladesh.

The letter, signed by Australian Senators and MPs, calls the move urgent and non-negotiable. They believe Bangladesh’s stability depends on honest elections. The lawmakers stressed that voters, especially from the Australian Bangladeshi community, expect this election plan to happen within this year.

The letter also urges the government to ensure equal chances for all political parties. It warns that any delay or confusion may reduce public trust and harm Bangladesh’s democratic future. The lawmakers said they are ready to help Bangladesh in its democratic journey.

Besides elections, the letter demands justice for the victims of the July uprising and calls for the disbanding of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). The lawmakers said the RAB has been linked to human rights abuses like torture and extrajudicial killings.

They supported US sanctions against RAB leaders and urged Australia to take similar steps. The letter reflects repeated requests from Australian Bangladeshis who want truth, justice, and compensation for victims and families.

The lawmakers said these actions are vital for peace, human rights, and public trust. They urged Yunus to act quickly, adding that both local citizens and the world are watching Bangladesh’s democratic progress closely.

They promised continued support for efforts toward fair and democratic governance in the country.
