Tunga Dam has been filled due to pre-monsoon rains and 2,000 cusecs of water has been released into the river through 5 crust gates. This is the first dam to be filled in the state.
As the dam has an inflow of 7,500 cusecs of water, 2,000 cusecs of water is being released into the river through five crust gates. Monsoon rains will start in another week. Then, more water is likely to be released into the river from the dam.
Tunga Dam is the smallest dam in the state. This dam is already filled. The total height of the dam is 588.24 meters. The current dam has accumulated 587.54 feet of water. Only one foot is left to fill the dam. Due to good rainfall in the catchment area, the inflow into the dam is good.
“On Monday morning, as the water storage in the dam increased, 5,000 cusecs of water was released to the Brindavan Hydropower Plant in the reservoir. Now, due to the increased inflow into the dam, water is being released into the river. A total of 2,000 cusecs of water has been released into the river. 3.24 TMC of water has been stored in the dam,” Thippanaik, engineer at the Tunga Upper River Project informed.
