The Suvarnamukhi River, a vital water source flowing through the town, is increasingly becoming polluted due to daily dumping of municipal waste along its banks. Recent rains have further deteriorated the river's condition, pushing it towards pollution.

Flowing from Siddharabetta and merging with other local rivers such as Jayamangali and Garudachala, the Suvarnamukhi River, overflowed for the first time in 30 years. However, despite some water still flowing, it is now choked by plastic, rubber, and other decaying waste dumped into it on a daily basis.

Vast amount of waste are being disposed of near the Bangalore Road Bridge, along the Malleshpur Road, and in other areas. Particularly concerning is the constant dumping of waste from local poultry shops near these bridges.

This negligence has led to an increase in stray pigs and dogs in the area, with foul smell renting the air. Residents are concerned over health hazards due to the polluted river.

Despite the alarming situation, the town council remains indifferent, failing to take any action against the waste disposal

With wastewater and sewage being dumped into the river, public health risks are increasing. The additional threat from a nearby private factory's waste further jeopardizes the environment, leaving locals fearing that Koratagere could soon face a public health crisis due to rampant pollution.
