“Women play an important role in the family. We should take steps to build a society where women live with dignity by treating them as equals, said Lingaraj Angadi,” president of the district Kannada Sahitya Parishad. He was speaking while inaugurating the 'Dharwad District Single Women's Conference' organized by the Dharwad District Committee of the Karnataka State Single Women's Protection Association. Demands can be fulfilled only when the organization is strong, he said.

State Farmers' Association President, Com U Basavaraj demanded, a survey to be conducted and rehabilitation should be provided to single women in the state. A deposit of 10 lakh should be made for single women above the age of 30, and the government should announce in the budget to provide Rs 25,000 monthly. Devadasi women and their children are facing social ostracism. Women who have fled their husbands' homes due to violence and abuse are being pushed away from their homes and losing their lives without any support. The government should come to their aid, he demanded.

B Malamma, Coordinator of state unit of the Association for the Protection of Single Women, said, women who become single due to certain circumstances are not able to build an independent life. This conference has been organized to give voice to their pain and build a dignified life. Women who are socially excluded should move forward towards a self-reliant life.
