In a major operation to rein in rising crime and gang-related violence in Hubballi-Dharwad, police launched a massive pre-dawn crackdown on Monday, targeting known rowdies across the twin cities. Officers raided the residences of 1,158 rowdies falling under the jurisdiction of 16 police stations, seizing deadly weapons, mobile phones, and vehicles.

The operation, led by DCPs, ACPs, Inspectors, PSIs, and ASIs, resulted in the arrest of 737 rowdies, 20 drug peddlers, 227 drug users, and 72 other criminals. Authorities confiscated 80 mobile phones, 14 bikes, and two lethal weapons during the raids.

All arrested individuals were brought to their respective police stations for detailed interrogation. The police gathered information on their daily movements and contacted relatives and acquaintances for further verification. Several offenders were warned, made to confess, and formally booked under relevant laws. Some who were previously absconding despite warrants were tracked down and produced before court.

Deadly weapons found during the raids have resulted in cases filed under the Unlawful Possession of Weapons Act. Police are currently analysing seized mobile phones for call records and establishing criminal links.

“This is a clear warning that rowdyism, hooliganism, and illegal activities will not be tolerated. Cases will be booked under the Goonda Act without hesitation, and offenders will be deported if necessary,” said DCP Mahaninga Nandgavi.

The city police have intensified surveillance, vowing continued vigilance to ensure public safety and curb gang violence.
