The National Lok Adalat will be held on July 12 across 85 courts in Belagavi district, with a target of settling over 20,000 cases, announced Senior Civil Judge and DLSA Secretary Sandeep Patil on Friday.

Speaking at a press conference, Patil said that of the 1.47 lakh cases registered, around 20,000 cases are ready for amicable settlement. He emphasized that all courts have been directed to give top priority to settling eligible cases during the Adalat.

The event will address a variety of civil and compoundable criminal cases, including motor accident claims, bank recovery suits, labor issues, electricity bill disputes, and more — all of which are suitable for out-of-court settlements through mutual agreement.

Patil highlighted that Lok Adalats are an effective alternative dispute resolution mechanism, helping to reduce judicial backlog while saving time, money, and mental stress for litigants. He said the previous Adalat had successfully resolved around 15,000 cases, and this year’s goal is even more ambitious.

He added that Permanent Lok Adalats are functional in six divisions, including Belagavi, providing citizens an accessible and free legal forum for conciliation.

To ensure efficient execution, coordination has been established among judges, lawyers, banks, insurance companies, and police officials, Patil said, adding that all parties involved are well-prepared for swift settlements.

Patil concluded by affirming that Lok Adalats not only bring speedy justice but also enhance public confidence in the judicial system.
