Thimmesh Kumar Sampalli, Project Director of District Nirmiti Kendra, Haveri, is all set to take on a 1,540 km endurance cycling race organised by Audax United Kingdom from August 3 to 8. He is one of 186 Indian cyclists among 2,400 global participants, and the only rider representing the Haveri Cycle Club. Riders must complete the gruelling route within a strict 128-hour limit.

Thimmesh, a civil engineer by profession, has been preparing rigorously for over a year, covering distances of 100, 200, 300, and 1,000 km as part of his training. He also trained in the tough terrains of Jammu & Kashmir, which helped him adapt to varying conditions despite the difference in climate from the UK.

Six cyclists from North Karnataka are part of the Karnataka contingent of 48 riders. Thimmesh, however, remains a standout participant, known for his passion for solo rides and consistent long-distance cycling feats over the past eight years.

His notable past expeditions include the Dharwad–Dhanushkodi route (1,100 km), Hubballi–Mysuru–Hubballi (1,000 km), and Delhi to Lal Chowk in Kashmir (840 km). He also took part in a Guinness World Record event in 2019, representing the Hubballi Bicycle Club.

“Cycling is my passion. Over the years, I’ve completed many expeditions while balancing my professional duties. I especially enjoy solo rides,” said Thimmesh Kumar. He expressed strong confidence in completing the UK event within the allotted time.

Arvind Mulimani of Haveri Cycle Club lauded Thimmesh’s unwavering dedication and role as a cycling mentor, highlighting his inspiring journey and commitment to the sport.
