BELAGAVI
A major infrastructure upgrade is on the horizon for Belagavi city, with a new 4-km flyover planned under the Public Works Department (PWD) to connect seven key junctions. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan announced the project during the District Level Road Safety Committee meeting, stating that the tender process will commence shortly.
Highlighting the importance of road safety and traffic management, the DC stressed the need for a well-planned action strategy to reduce road accidents and improve the flow of vehicles across the city. He instructed concerned departments—including police, transport, and PWD—to coordinate and take immediate measures for smooth traffic movement.
Currently, 22 traffic signals operate across the city. The DC called on the PWD to invite tenders from planning agencies for a comprehensive traffic management project. He noted that any agency submitting proposals must strictly adhere to stipulated conditions before the tender process proceeds. Member secretaries of the Road Safety Committee were asked to expedite the process.
He cited the example of Kalaburagi, where a Detailed Project Report (DPR) on short-term, medium-term, and long-term traffic management has already been implemented as a pilot. Similar plans are envisioned for Belagavi.
A PWD technical assistant mentioned the successful use of artificial intelligence software in Bagalkot district to analyse vehicle movement at signals. He suggested that installing smart city cameras in Belagavi could enable real-time data collection and enhance traffic monitoring through AI.
City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabarao Borase, Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled, and Additional Superintendent of Police Shruti were present at the meeting.
