MYSURU
State Cooperative Minister KN Rajanna has announced his political retirement, saying that he is withdrawing from the contest in order to give an opportunity to the youth.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, he said, “I am already 75 years old. Therefore, I have no intention of contesting the next elections. I have taken this decision so the youth get an opportunity.”
Speaking at a programme held in Hunsur, Minister Rajanna explained the status of the cooperative sector. “Steps are being taken to free the cooperative sector from the clutches of vested interests. There is no need to send the amendment to the Cooperative Sector Act to the Centre after the Governor's signature. This amendment falls under the purview of the state government. Therefore, there is no need to send it to the Central Government.” He clarified that this issue will be discussed and necessary action will be taken.
“Some dairy elections, including MDCC, have been postponed due to ballot paper and technical reasons. Also, the elections have been postponed due to some technical reasons including ballot paper. There is no political reason for this. Do cooperatives have to be actively involved in business, including general meetings, or do they have to become members of cooperatives to vote in elections. This will be a burden on those associations. The government's intention is that all members should be actively involved,” he added. Minister Rajanna said that all elections will be held within the time limit in the coming days.
Minister Rajanna clarified his decision that he will continue in the cooperative sector and active politics. “I will work in the cooperative sector without stopping for elections. I will continue to work for the development of cooperative institutions,” he said.
