Mysore City Corporation Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif called upon the citizens of Mysuru to reduce the use of plastic as much as possible in the interest of the future generation.

Speaking after inaugurating 'Namma Mysuru, Swachcha Mysuru', an initiative by the MCC towards clean and awareness sessions in connection with the World Environment day here on Saturday, he said the use of plastic has increased manifold as the people have stopped taking the cloth bags while going to market. After the use, the plastic is thrown out of the house and that solid waste will not degrade in the soil for many years. The biggest challenge the current generation is facing has been the demon of plastic which has spread its tentacles everywhere. This menace has now spread to villages.

Asif if a person forgets to clear the garbage filled plastic bags, it will start emanating a bad smell in a day or two and grow big in one week and attain the size of a house if not cleared for one year. Even the plastic sandals they use also do not degrade in the soil for years together, So, they must use recyclable plastic and reduce the burden on the environment. By doing so, they are not only saving the environment but also keeping it neat and safe for the coming generations.

He also appealed to all the non-governmental organisations, individuals and others to join hands with the MCC to keep Namma Mysuru clean and neat.
