BELAGAVI:
Activists from the State Farmers' Union and Hasiru Sene staged a massive protest in the city demanding the return of 10,000 acres of land in Kullolli, which they claim historically belongs to farmers. They alleged the land was awarded to the Inamdar family by the British in exchange for handing over freedom fighter Sangolli Rayanna.
Union Secretary Raju Powara, Vice President Suresh Paraganvara, and leaders Kishan Nandi, Kumar Nandi, Satyappa Mallapura, and Asma Jutadara led the protest, asserting that this land should be reclaimed and returned to the rightful farming community.
According to the protestors, the Inamdar family has continued to cultivate the land through successive generations. The farmers expressed anger that a case filed by a member of the Inamdar family in the High Court has resulted in a warrant against Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan, who had attempted to intervene in support of the farmers.
“If the Deputy Commissioner himself cannot help us, then who will?” questioned the activists, calling for government action to resolve the long-standing land dispute.
