Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has issued a response to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's letter offering to rebuild homes for 100 families who lost their houses due to landslides in wayanad.
Responding to Siddaramaiah’s claim that Kerala had not responded to Karnataka’s promise of assistance for wayanad's rehabilitation, Vijayan clarified that Kerala is preparing a comprehensive plan for the township project to rehabilitate disaster victims. He assured that karnataka would be informed once the project is finalized.
In his reply, Chief Minister Vijayan thanked Karnataka for its generous offer to build 100 houses. He mentioned that kerala is working on a structured framework to include contributions from karnataka and other donors in a transparent and well-monitored manner.
The rehabilitation project aims to construct townships for displaced families near their previous homes while ensuring safety from future natural disasters. Two locations in wayanad’s vythiri taluk have been identified for constructing eco-friendly and disaster-resistant townships.
Vijayan emphasized that every phase of the rehabilitation project would be traceable, ensuring transparency and accountability. Once the final design of the township is ready, karnataka will be informed, and its support will be incorporated into the project.
Highlighting Kerala’s priority to resettle disaster-affected families in safe zones, Vijayan explained that the new townships are being planned close to the victims’ original homes to maintain emotional ties. The identified sites will adhere to safety standards, ensuring resilience against potential natural calamities.
