City police have busted a racket involved in the illegal transportation of government-distributed jowar meant for ration card holders under the Annabhagya scheme. Two individuals, Karabasappa Shivayogeppa Hadarahalli and Jamal Sanshuddin Sunnar Khan, have been booked in connection with the case.

As per the scheme, jowar is distributed along with rice to eligible families. A police patrol intercepted a lorry near the Ranebennur police station and found bags of jowar being transported without valid documentation. Upon inspection by Food Department officials, it was confirmed that the jowar matched the ration supplies.

According to police, the accused had procured the jowar at subsidized rates and intended to sell it at inflated prices in the black market. A complaint was lodged by Food Inspector Shambhulinga Somanahalli, and an FIR has been registered. Investigations are underway to identify others involved in the network.
