The State High Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a re-investigation into the Sowjanya rape and murder case that occurred in Dharmasthala in 2012. The PIL was filed by Naveen Kumar Neriya, Girish Bharadwaj, and Vinayaka Friends Trust, Balnadu of Puttur. The court, after hearing the applicants, ruled that only the government, the original complainants, or the aggrieved family have the standing to file an appeal in the case. The court also noted that there is scope to consider any loopholes in the investigation of the case. While acknowledging the good intentions of the petitioners, the court emphasized that all actions must be conducted within the purview of the law and subsequently dismissed the petition. Senior advocate Arun Shyam represented the petitioners in the case.
