Rajarshi Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Jayanti will be celebrated meaningfully and grandly on June 4 at Karnataka Kalamandir, said Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikant Reddy.

Speaking while presiding over a preparatory meeting, he said thousands of people are expected to participate in the celebration of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar’s Jayanti. “In fact, the Jayantis are not limited to one community; people from all communities will come together to celebrate it with grandeur,” he added.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr P Shivaraju said that the state-level celebration of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Jayanti will take place in Mysuru district, which is his native place. “As the Maharaja of Mysuru, he made a monumental contribution to the development of the region. His Jayanti should be celebrated like a family festival,” he said.

Dr MD Sudarshan, Assistant Director of   Department of Kannada and Culture, said that the procession will start from Venkatramanaswamy Temple in palace premises and proceed to Kalamandira. Cultural troupes from the Kannada and Culture Department will participate. A silver chariot carrying the portrait of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar will lead the procession, which will also include a cavalry contingent and a police band.

The City Corporation will ensure cleanliness at the procession route, stage venue, and Kalamandira premises.

Community leaders pointed out that last year, due to the model code of conduct, the Jayanti couldn’t be celebrated in full grandeur. This time, the event should be celebrated in all districts of the state. Officials from all departments must participate. Schools should educate students about the ideals of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar. Essay competitions should be organized at the district and state levels about his life and contributions, they appealed.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer S Yukesh Kumar, officials from various departments, and leaders of different communities participated.
