In a road accident involving the convoy of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, four police personnel were injured when one of the escort vehicles overturned near Srirangapatna on Thursday. The mishap occurred on the highway while the convoy was in motion, reportedly at high speed.
According to preliminary reports, the vehicle lost control and overturned, injuring the police personnel on board. The injured officers were promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Hospital sources have confirmed that all four officers are currently undergoing treatment and are in stable condition.
Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar was not in the affected vehicle and is reported to be unharmed. He continued with his official engagements following the incident. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Officials are also examining whether any safety protocols were breached during the high-speed convoy movement.
The convoy was en route to an official event when the incident occurred, and the sudden crash drew attention to the risks associated with VIP vehicle movement on public roads. Senior police officials visited the accident site and the hospital to take stock of the situation and ensure that the injured personnel received proper care. The incident has raised fresh concerns over convoy safety and the need for stricter adherence to road regulations even during emergency or high-priority movements. A detailed report on the accident is awaited from the investigating team. Further updates are expected once the internal inquiry concludes.
