There is a shortage of urea fertilizer in the district, and farmers are in distress. A protest has been organized on July 29 against the state government for failing to supply fertilizer, said BJP district unit President Virupakshappa Bellary.

Speaking at a press conference in the city, he said, we will lay siege to the Deputy Commissioner’s office at 10 am on July 29 and send a strong message to the state governmentThe state is receiving heavy rainfall. The lands are getting waterlogged and the crops are getting spoiled. Now the crops need urea fertilizer and the farmers are struggling to get it.

The state government, which has not responded to the cry of the food-earners, is doing injustice by not supplying fertilizer in adequate quantity. The BJP has started a fight against the state government's anti-farmer move, he said.

The state government had requested the central government for 6.30 lakh metric tons of urea fertilizer in the current monsoon. The central government, which responded to the demand, has supplied 8.73 lakh metric tons of fertilizer so far. The question arises as to where the fertilizer that was received in excess of the demand is. There is a suspicion that it has been sold to outside the state or to some factories, he said.

The central government has supplied more fertilizer than the demand. However, the Congress is falsely alleging that the central government itself has not provided fertilizer.

BOX

If the state government had cared about the farmers, it would have demanded more fertilizer. It would have ensured that there was no shortage of fertilizer in the state. However, the current government is mired in corruption. It is not responding to the problems of the farmers, Virupakshappa Bellary complained.
