Early Rainfall Boosts Fertiliser Demand in Haveri District

Pre-monsoon showers have spurred fertiliser demand across Haveri district. While most fertiliser variants are supplied above demand, DAP remains 2,000 MT short. For May’s kharif season, farmers requested 35,000 MT of fertiliser, but the government supplied 43,000 MT. The agriculture department’s systematic distribution ensures sufficient supply to meet farmers’ needs.

The early rainfall created ideal sowing conditions, increasing demand for soybean seeds, which are available at subsidised rates, along with groundnut, moong dal, and pigeon pea seeds. Over 1,000 farmers visited the Haveri Raita Samparka Kendra in two days.

Assistant Director BH Veerabhadrappa assured that there is no scarcity of quality seeds or fertilisers and urged farmers to purchase seeds patiently and as needed. Linking fertiliser to seeds is not mandatory. The department will act against vendors if complaints arise.

Joint Director K Mallikarjun noted a slight scarcity of DAP but encouraged farmers to use other fertilisers with similar ingredients. An additional 9,000 MT arrived, and 5,000 MT more is expected soon to meet rising demand.
