A proposal will soon be sent to the state government requesting prior approval to widen key roads in Chitradurga city. This decision was made during a meeting held at the District Collector’s office on Saturday, chaired by Minister for Planning and Statistics and District In-Charge Minister D. Sudhakar.

The discussion mainly centered on expanding the old Pune–Bengaluru road that passes through the city. Specific areas identified for widening include the stretch from Challakere Gate to important junctions like Tourist Bungalow Circle, Gandhi Circle, and Kanaka Circle. Minister D. Sudhakar instructed officials to begin the necessary steps to obtain government clearance to move the project forward without delay.

Deputy Commissioner T. Venkatesh highlighted the rapid growth of Chitradurga city. He said a proposal is being drafted to upgrade the City Municipal Council to meet the city’s growing demands. Given that several national highways run through Chitradurga, and with increasing traffic and frequent road accidents, he stressed that road widening is essential to ease congestion and improve road safety.

He also mentioned that prior discussions and meetings have already been conducted with officials about the road development project. The goal is to reduce traffic bottlenecks, improve travel conditions, and prepare the city’s infrastructure for future growth.

The meeting was attended by several senior officials and elected representatives, including MLA K.C. Veerendra Pappi, Superintendent of Police Ranjith Kumar Bandaru, Additional Deputy Commissioner B.T. Kumaraswamy, UDA Project Director Reshma Hanagal, UDA Commissioner Somashekar, Municipal Commissioner M. Renuka, and Special Land Acquisition Officer Venkatesh Naik. Their joint participation reflects the importance and urgency of the proposed road development in Chitradurga.
