A critical section of the Hulikal Ghat Road near the Chandikamba Temple hairpin curve has developed significant cracks and suffered a landslide, prompting immediate action from the Public Works Department (PWD). Central Zone Chief Engineer BV Jagadeesh, accompanied by a team of designers and engineers, visited the site to assess the extent of the damage and plan remedial measures.
During the inspection, officials carefully evaluated the size of the cracks and the severity of the landslide. Discussions focused on potential construction solutions to stabilize the slope and prevent further soil movement. Consultant officer Shivakumar from Bengaluru emphasized the importance of strict precautions during monsoon-related repair work, warning that even minor errors could lead to a complete road closure.
The team also reviewed ongoing repair efforts, including the effectiveness of plastic sheets laid to prevent water seepage into the soil—an important step in reducing further damage.
Speaking to the media, Zone Superintendent Engineer S Ganesh said, “Our top priority is to stabilize the cracked road and prevent further landslides. Though Rs 4.35 crore has been sanctioned for the project, working during the monsoon is a challenge. We will proceed cautiously to ensure the safety of all vehicles.”
Executive Engineer Nagesh, Hosanagara AEE Sunil, AE Santosh Naik, and contractors CV Chandrashekar and Pradeep from Hulikal were also present during the site visit.
