HAVERI
Plans are underway to organize an innovative state-level conference for artists, modeled after literary conferences, bringing together talent from all 31 districts of Karnataka, said PS Kumar, the newly appointed President of the Karnataka Lalit Kala Academy. He spoke during the recent Kalakriti Odu program held at the Hanchinamani Art Gallery in Haveri.
The Lalit Kala Academy actively conducts programs aimed at both the public and artists. The Kalakriti Odu initiative focuses on teaching how to read and analyze paintings. Additionally, the academy offers portrait training, graphic workshops, and the “We Are With You” program to nurture artistic skills.
Art critic KV Subramanya emphasized the importance of viewing art with sensitivity and from a certain distance to truly appreciate its value. He highlighted the difference between simply looking at and deeply reading a work of art.
Literateur Satish Kulkarni added that paintings must captivate viewers and stressed that just as grammar and vocabulary are fundamental to literary criticism, color and lines serve as the grammar of painting.
Lalit Kala Academy member Kariappa Hanchinamani said the Kalakriti Odu program aims to boost interest in painting within the district and expand artistic activities.
Present at the event were artists Bahurupi, Kumar Katenahalli, CD Jattennavara, SJ Chitragara, Basavaraja Kallur, Shivaraj, MD Honnammavara, Nirmala Himmadi, and 12 students from Davangere Art School.
