In a tragic incident this morning near Yellapur in Uttara Kannada district, a truck carrying vegetables overturned, resulting in the death of 10 people at the scene. Over 15 others were injured in the accident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences regarding the incident and announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to the families of the deceased from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF). The Karnataka government has already announced a relief amount of ₹3 lakh.
In his post on X, Modi stated, "I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the accident in Uttara Kannada, Karnataka. I extend my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones, and I wish a speedy recovery to the injured. The local administration is providing assistance to the victims."
Moreover, he reassured that each family of the deceased would receive Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF, and RS. 50,000 would be provided to the injured.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his sorrow regarding the Yellapur accident. In his post on X, he stated, "It is heartbreaking to hear that precious lives have been lost in a horrific road accident near Yellapur in Uttara Kannada. I extend my condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in this tragedy, and I pray for the swift recovery of those injured in the accident."
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also announced a relief of ₹3 lakh for the families of the deceased in the Yellapur accident.
The truck, which was transporting vegetables and fruits from Haveri to Kumta, overturned this morning near Gullapur in Yellapur. As a result, those inside the truck fell out and got trapped beneath the vehicle, leading to 10 fatalities. Over 15 others sustained injuries. All the deceased were reportedly from Savanoor in Haveri and were traveling for their vegetable business.
