Belagavi
A five-member central team will visit Belagavi on Monday (today) to evaluate the city's cleanliness as part of Swachh Survekshan 2025. The Belagavi Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been informed about the visit, and officials are gearing up for the assessment.
In 2023, Belagavi ranked 198th, slipping from 171st in 2022. Since no survey was conducted in 2024, this evaluation will determine the city’s progress after a gap. The City Corporation has intensified efforts, focusing on waste segregation, with 80% of garbage now sorted, saving ₹10 lakh per month. Steps are also being taken to minimize waste dumping on streets.
Citizen feedback plays a vital role in rankings, and the central team will interact with residents to gather their opinions. The assessment will also review the 1,300 sanitation workers, including those on regular, direct-salary, and contractual roles, examining their efficiency in maintaining cleanliness.
For the 2025 survey, the Swachh Survekshan Toolkit has been updated with ten key assessment parameters. Projects approved by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) will be closely monitored. Strict data verification measures will be implemented, and any discrepancies may lead to penalties.
To ensure transparency, MoHUA has introduced measures such as surprise field visits, GPS tracking of assessors, a grievance redressal system, and an IT-based monitoring system via the Swachhatam Portal. The city's performance in this assessment will determine its standing in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan rankings.
