“Farmers should not give any money to middlemen. Compensation must go entirely to the farmers,” Joshi insisted.
HUBBALLI – The central government has directed an insurance company to release ₹30 crore as compensation under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for crop losses in Dharwad district during the 2024 monsoon season. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi emphasized that the amount must be transferred directly to farmers’ accounts, without the involvement of middlemen.
Speaking outside his office at Chittaguppi Hospital premises during a felicitation by farmers, Joshi said that crops were severely damaged by heavy rains in 2024, and only interim compensation had initially been paid. Although the Agriculture Insurance Company’s survey initially found inconsistencies with eligibility criteria, the issue was resolved after prolonged discussions and the company agreed to disburse the full amount.
He warned that some unauthorized individuals, including middlemen who had paid insurance premiums on behalf of farmers, were now demanding a share of the compensation. “Farmers should not give any money to middlemen. Compensation must go entirely to the farmers,” Joshi insisted.
Kundagol taluk is among the regions receiving higher compensation. However, there are reports of middlemen asking for 50% of this amount. “Such harassment must be stopped, and officials must create awareness to protect farmers from exploitation,” said MLA M.R. Patil.
MLAs Aravind Bellada and Mahesh Tenginakai, along with farmers from Hubballi and Kundagol, were present at the event. Joshi also called on district officials to launch awareness drives to ensure transparency and direct benefit to farmers.

Farmers from all districts had received insurance compensation, but due to technical reasons, it was delayed in our district. After persistent efforts for three to four months, we have now received confirmation that ₹30 crore will be released. We will not tolerate harassment by middlemen. Concerned officials must report such cases to me or the police. Strict investigation and legal action will follow, assured Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu.
