FC Internazionale Milano pulled off a dramatic 2-1 comeback win against Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds in the FIFA Club World Cup, knocking the Asian side out of the tournament. A late equaliser by captain Lautaro Martínez and a stoppage-time winner from Valentin Carboni saved Inter from a shock defeat at Seattle’s Lumen Field.
Urawa’s Ryoma Watanabe scored in the 12th minute, giving the underdogs a surprise lead. Inter, despite controlling possession in the first half, failed to score until the second. A stunning bicycle kick by Martínez leveled the match. Moments later, Carboni netted the winner after Urawa failed to clear a cross.
In another Group F match, Borussia Dortmund edged Mamelodi Sundowns 4-3 in a thrilling encounter at TQL Stadium. Sundowns struck first through Lucas Ribeiro in the 11th minute after a fine assist from ex-Dortmund player Tashreeq Matthews.
Dortmund responded quickly. Felix Nmecha scored off a goalkeeping error, followed by goals from Serhou Guirassy and new signing Jobe Bellingham before halftime. A second-half own goal by Sundowns’ Khuliso Mudau made it 4-1.
However, Sundowns fought back. Iqraam Rayners and Lebo Mothiba scored to cut the lead to 4-3, but Dortmund held on under late pressure to seal victory and gain three crucial points.
The results leave Inter and Dortmund in strong positions as the group stage heats up, while Urawa Reds exit the tournament.
