Indian women wrestlers delivered a stunning performance at the Yasar Dogu International Wrestling Tournament in Turkey, clinching four gold and one bronze medal to finish second in the overall team rankings. Despite sending only six wrestlers, India left a powerful mark on the competition, with host nation Turkey taking the top spot and Kazakhstan finishing third.
Pushpa claimed gold in the 55kg category, while Neha triumphed in the 57kg division. Manisha showcased dominance in the 62kg class, and Harshita added another gold in the 72kg category. Neelam contributed with a bronze in the 50kg category, wrapping up a highly successful campaign for the Indian squad.
Meanwhile, at the Under-17 Asian Wrestling Championships in Vung Tau, Vietnam, Indian freestyle wrestlers secured five medals, including three gold and two bronze. However, the team narrowly missed out on a top-three finish in the overall standings.
Gaurav Punia led the charge with a gold medal in the 65kg class, followed by Arjun Ruhil in 92kg and Lacky in 110kg. Shivam (45kg) and Dhanraj Ganapati (51kg) secured bronze medals, highlighting India’s depth and strength in the heavier weight categories. While the Under-17 squad did not return with a team trophy, their individual efforts displayed strong technical prowess and resilience. Together, both the senior women and junior freestyle teams have underlined India’s growing stature on the global wrestling stage with consistent medal-winning performances.
