Hardik Pandya, captain of Mumbai Indians, has joined the team ahead of the IPL 2025 season after playing a key role in India's Champions Trophy victory in Dubai.
Pandya was instrumental in India's title-winning campaign, contributing both with the bat and ball. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the final, securing their third Champions Trophy title. Mumbai Indians welcomed Pandya’s arrival by sharing his picture on X with the caption, "The GUN has arrived."
The all-rounder, who took over MI’s captaincy in 2024, had a tough first season as the franchise finished last with only four wins in 14 matches. He will be looking to turn things around in IPL 2025. However, Pandya will miss Mumbai’s opening match against Chennai Super Kings on March 23 due to a one-match suspension. The penalty was imposed after three over-rate violations in IPL 2024, as per league regulations.
Meanwhile, MI's pre-season training camp is underway with head coach Mahela Jayawardene leading an experienced support staff, including Paras Mhambrey and Lasith Malinga as bowling coaches. New players such as Naman Dhir, Robin Minz, and Raj Angad Bawa have also joined the camp.
"A new season brings fresh energy. We aim to build intensity from day one and prepare well for the challenges ahead," Jayawardene said. With Pandya back in the squad, Mumbai Indians will be hoping for a strong comeback this season.
