The long-delayed elections of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) will finally take place on August 21, the Ajay Singh-led Interim Committee announced on Friday. The polls, which will decide key positions for the 2025–2029 term, will be conducted during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for 11:00 AM in Delhi-NCR.

As per the circular, member states and union territories must submit the names of two official representatives by 5:00 PM on August 4. The AGM agenda will also cover the confirmation of the previous meeting’s minutes and other matters, subject to the Chair’s approval.

The elections were originally planned for March 28 but were delayed due to prolonged court proceedings, leading World Boxing to appoint a six-member Interim Committee on April 7 to oversee the federation’s day-to-day affairs. Initially given a 90-day tenure, the committee’s mandate was extended to ensure elections take place by August 31, in line with World Boxing’s deadline.

In parallel, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) set up a three-member panel on July 11 to examine the poll delays and chart a path for fair and timely elections. The upcoming polls are seen as a crucial step to restore normalcy and secure global confidence in Indian boxing administration.
