Botafogo coach Renato Paiva said, “We started strong but didn’t handle their pressure in the second half. We lost control.” Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer praised his team’s fight: “We competed and showed our character.”

In another match, SE Palmeiras and FC Porto played out a goalless but lively draw. Despite ending 0-0, both sides created many chances. Palmeiras attempted 17 shots, with five on target, but couldn’t convert. Porto held firm defensively throughout the game.
