The Central government has approved ₹2,006.40 crore in financial assistance to Himachal Pradesh for recovery and rebuilding after last year’s floods, landslides, and cloudbursts. The decision was taken by a high-level committee led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Of the total amount, ₹1,504.80 crore will come from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) under the Recovery and Reconstruction Funding Window. This fund will help Himachal Pradesh restore damaged infrastructure and provide relief to affected areas.

Earlier, in December 2023, the Centre had already released ₹633.73 crore in additional support from the NDRF to the state.

This decision is part of broader recovery efforts in several states hit by disasters in 2023. The Centre sanctioned ₹1,658.17 crore for Uttarakhand following the Joshimath land subsidence and ₹555.27 crore for Sikkim after the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF).

In addition, ₹7,253.51 crore was set aside for hazard mitigation projects across the country. This includes ₹3,075.65 crore for urban flood control, ₹1,000 crore for landslide risk, ₹150 crore for GLOF prevention, ₹818.92 crore for forest fires, ₹186.78 crore for lightning, and ₹2,022.16 crore for droughts.

In 2024–25, the Centre also released ₹20,264.40 crore to 28 states under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and ₹5,160.76 crore under the NDRF to 19 states. Additionally, ₹4,984.25 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund and ₹719.72 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund were distributed.

The government said it remains committed to building a disaster-resilient India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
