A Uttar Pradesh court has sentenced a woman, Priyanka, to death for drowning her three young children in the Sengar river in 2024. Her partner, Ashish alias Danny, was given life imprisonment. The case relied heavily on the testimony of Priyanka’s eldest son, 9-year-old Sonu, who survived the attack.
Additional Sessions Judge Saif Ahmed found Priyanka guilty of the brutal murders and called the case one of the rarest of the rare. The court also imposed a fine of ₹2.5 lakh on Priyanka and ₹1 lakh on Ashish, with 75% of the total amount directed to Sonu.
According to police, Priyanka was in a relationship with Ashish after her husband’s death. On June 27, 2024, the couple took Priyanka’s four sons to the riverbank in Devarpur, drugged them, and threw them into the water. Only Sonu survived, helping authorities’ piece together the crime. Both were arrested following a complaint by Priyanka’s brother-in-law.
