United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President Philemon Yang is visiting India for a four-day trip, starting Tuesday, at the invitation of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. During his visit, they will discuss important multilateral and regional issues. Yang is also set to meet President Droupadi Murmu.
The UNGA President will visit Bengaluru, where he plans to explore Infosys and the Indian Institute of Science. He will have discussions with experts on India's innovations, particularly in sustainability and digital infrastructure, as noted by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Yang, who took office as UNGA President on September 10, has introduced A Pact for the Future, focusing on multilateral solutions for global betterment. Before becoming the UNGA President, Yang served as Cameroon’s Prime Minister.
In a previous meeting, Jaishankar expressed India’s support for Yang's vision of unity, peace, and human dignity. Yang, on his part, acknowledged India's contributions to the Global South and discussed priorities for the upcoming UNGA79.
Jaishankar shared on X about his meeting with Yang, expressing confidence in his vision for a peaceful, sustainable future, while Yang also thanked Jaishankar for the fruitful discussion on key global issues.
