Twelve people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Puducherry, according to V. Ravichandran, Director of Health and Family Welfare Services. In a press release issued on Tuesday, he stated that the department has been screening individuals with cough and cold symptoms, following guidelines from the Union Health Ministry. The recent cases were identified during the past week.

Ravichandran urged the public not to panic, assuring that the Health Department is well-prepared to manage any emergency. Four hospital beds have been reserved for Covid-19 cases at the Government General Hospital, Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute in Kadirkamam, and Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital for Children.

Additionally, a six-bed ward with oxygen and ventilator support has been arranged at the Government Hospital for Chest Diseases in Gorimedu.

The Health Department is working closely with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Union Health Ministry to monitor the situation. They are also reviewing data on respiratory illnesses, such as the common cold, Influenza-like Illness (ILI), and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI), to ensure a comprehensive response.

Authorities continue to track the spread and are maintaining preventive measures. The department has asked people to stay alert, follow safety protocols, and report symptoms early to help control the spread.

Maharashtra: 2 Covid deaths, 52 cases

Since January, Maharashtra has reported two Covid-19-related deaths, both from Mumbai, the state health department said. The deceased had serious health conditions—one with nephrotic syndrome and seizures, the other battling cancer. A total of 6,066 swab samples were tested, and 106 turned out positive, mostly from Mumbai, followed by Pune, Thane, and Kolhapur. Currently, 52 people are under treatment, with 16 hospitalized. The department noted that rising Covid cases are being observed not just in Maharashtra, but in other states and countries too.
