Sambhal
A fraud under the MGNREGA scheme was uncovered in Atarasi village, Sambhal district, where over a dozen fake labourers were shown working, and wages were withdrawn in their names. The village head, Sunita Yadav, is accused of creating job cards for deceased villagers and withdrawing money by falsely reporting work done.
The district administration confirmed an investigation is ongoing, and recovery of Rs 1.05 lakh is being made from Yadav. Other village projects are also under review.
Residents revealed their names or deceased relatives were used without consent to withdraw wages. One local said job cards were even made in the village head’s deceased father-in-law’s name.
MGNREGA guarantees 100 days of work annually for rural households, aiming to support unskilled workers. This scam exposes misuse of government funds intended for genuine labourers.
