Tejashwi urges Nitish for new quota laws

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday wrote to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, asking for a special assembly session to pass new laws raising quotas for weaker sections to 85 percent. He accused the government of delaying the issue in a letter shared on social media. Yadav, who was deputy CM when reservations were increased to 75 percent, urged that the new laws be sent to the Centre to be added to the Constitution’s Ninth Schedule, which would protect them from court challenges. He noted that the 2023 quota hike was struck down by the Patna High Court due to lack of a proper study. The increase was based on a recent caste survey showing more Dalits and backward classes than old data. Yadav cited Tamil Nadu’s 69 percent quota as an example and called for an all-party committee to draft the new laws before a special session passes them. He blamed BJP and RSS ideology for opposing reservations.
