The Sambhal district administration in Uttar Pradesh has issued notices to the caretakers of 123 dilapidated properties, which are at risk of collapse, officials announced on Friday. This includes buildings protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) or those within a 100-meter radius of such structures.

District Magistrate (DM) Rajender Pensiya stated that the Sambhal Municipal Council has taken action due to concerns that these structures could pose a threat to public safety. "These buildings are vulnerable and could lead to significant harm or loss," he said, adding that he had personally inspected a few of these sites.

In relation to ongoing encroachments, the DM explained that measures to clear illegal occupations had been underway for the past few months, with notices being systematically issued. Regarding security, Pensiya assured that a three-tier security system, involving 31 magistrates, had been deployed for peacekeeping, similar to previous Fridays. A peace committee also held a meeting, with religious leaders urging unity and peace.

The district gained attention on November 24 last year, when violence broke out during a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in the Kot Garvi area, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
